Kanye West Releases Video for "Heaven and Hell"

Kanye West recently dropped an official video for the song "Heaven and Hell" off of his last album, Donda. The video was directed by Arnaud Bresson, Coodie, and Chike Ozah. Coodie and Chike are also the directors for Kanye's upcoming documentary: jeen-yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy.

The video features masterful cinematography showing masked people, wearing Kanye's new hoodie he released with the Gap, in a city setting. The imagery is very reminiscent of the clothing worn in the listening parties that led up to the release of Donda. Silhouettes and the hard contrast lighting give the video a very ominous feeling, all building up to the climax of the song. When the beat drops, we see a powerful shot featuring a silhouette of Kanye standing before an opening vortex in the clouds. The rest of the video features strong religious imagery. The masked people are brought into the heavens in the vortex. To wrap the video up, art of what looks to be a building similar to the Tower of Babylon is consumed by a wave of dust as some remain on Earth.

Though people have criticized it for being an "ad for his hoodies," I'd rather take a cinematically crafted music video than a boring TV spot any day. I hope to see more music videos from Donda as there have only been two others for the songs 24 and Come to Life.
